My Dear Mr Frye,

I have returned from downtownAs Written:down town-

I find that only 3 students know of the telegramEditorial Note: This telegram is not extant. to the "Inter Ocean"Editorial Note: Chicago Inter Ocean and that everythingAs Written:every thing is very quiet-

The Parliament of ReligionsEditorial Note: The World's Parliament of Religions at The World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, Illinois adjourned As Written: adjoined on the 27th and people, students included, are not talking or thinking about it except to say something pleasant

To show you how the students feel, I quote this from a letter just receivedAs Written:recd from Genl Bates -

It is a sample expression of the way the Students feel

[*]Editorial Note: There are quote marks down the left-hand margin to indicate that two entire paragraphs are quoted."What a grand glorious demonstration we had at Chicago - The Good was with us - The Parliament has and does interest me wonderfully

It is a step in the right direction & is the opening wedge which willlessen bigotry & tend to greater unity in Truth" —[*]Editorial Note: End quote marks.

The Newspapers only gave brief extracts of the addresses-

The complete addresses were very much better

The Newspaper men made correcting very promptly and cheerfully, and explained that the error was on the part of subordinates

yours
