My beloved Teacher

Chicago is a stopping place for scientistsEditorial Note: Christian Scientists who travel between the East and West-

Just at present, those who lingered in the east are returning, and while here express their individual conceptions of the intended scope of your communication to the Mother church-

Inasmuch as that ordination was not their demonstration and is not comprehended, by them, they are at present animated by a willingness to obey, but evidently are proceeding to obey their own sense of what has come to you as revelation-

No two students give the same statement of what has been decided on, or as to what is understood to be your own desire, and some of the reports are absolutely contradictory- They have a confusing effect on our people here and indicate that unless they have more definite instructions, the modes of procedure in many places will be diverse

Some, think that they will substitute, the sunday school lessons for the sermon, and then hold Sunday evening services of a general nature-

Others have said that they should adopt the new plan at once, but understood that they were to do more lecturing, and deliver more public addresses than ever–

On the other hand some think that the new plan means the repressing of public utterances, and the abolition of teaching etc

Conjecture is very busy, and everyoneAs Written:every one has become an interpreter of this step taken by you–

Chicago seems to be one of the pulses of Christian Science activity and I thought you might like to know of this irregular action so as to apply the remedy

By the way one report is that none but women are to be allowed to read "Science & HealthEditorial Note: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy"–

That word of God declares that in ScienceEditorial Note: Christian Science, woman is the highest idea of the divine Mind– You are the only one who understands this- I think the average state of thought among students is that mortal woman is a higher idea of God than mortal man- This of course is an area of mental malpractice, and so long as it continues will have a repressing influence on the progress of men in scientific endeavor.

In Chicago, the limitations having been somewhat lifted in this particular we find that men are freely coming into the fold and are doing good work. Truly one third of our congregation which is now 1.200 on the averageAs Written:agerage, are men.

In my own practice, my great aim is to lead every patient to the understanding of Science & Health - and I have fully as much success with men as with women-

Lovingly Yours,
Edward. A. Kimball
