Accession: 237AP1.38.027
Editorial Title: Silas J. Sawyer to Mary Baker Eddy, March 10, 1884
Author: Silas J. Sawyer
Recipient: Mary Baker Eddy
Date: March 10, 1884
Manuscript Description: Handwritten by Silas J. Sawyer on his stamped, lined stationery from Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Editorial Note: Sawyer tells Mary Baker Eddy that he received a copy of the Boston Advertiser that contains an article about Christian Science. He intends to distribute the article and believes it will help undo the damage done to the cause of Christian Science in the area by Fannie M. Silsbee, Clara E. Choate, and Jennie Harvey. Sawyer has recently been impressed that the primary purpose of Christian Science is to heal sin, rather than merely heal disease. He feels he can be successful in healing sin if he can only gain a clear realization of God as Love. He feels that sometimes he briefly attains this, but then when he tries to apply it, a cloud arises and puts him back in the darkness. He feels a need to subdue the false beliefs of 40 years accumulation.
