Accession: 243.39.013
Editorial Title: Arthur T. Buswell to Asa Gilbert Eddy and Mary Baker Eddy, 1880
Author: Arthur T. Buswell
Recipient: Asa Gilbert Eddy  Mary Baker Eddy
Date: 1880 - archivist estimate
Manuscript Description: Handwritten by Arthur T. Buswell.
Editorial Note: Buswell tells Asa Gilbert Eddy and Mary Baker Eddy that he has read Mary Baker Eddy's book, Science and Health. He commends the Eddys for their devotion and "divine patience," and feels put to shame by his own spiritual lethargy. He has seriously thought of giving up his current work for a local charity and devoting himself to work in Christian Science. He has shown Science and Health to people, but no one has shown interest in buying it. He asks if a successful practitioner of Christian Science should be able to teach as well. He writes that he encloses the annual report of the charity he works for.

Dear Teachers: I had read very carefully "S.&H.Editorial Note: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy" revised and feel it to be the newest Testament of God. Your constant devotion and slight worldly reward is certainly a manifestation of divine grace and patience. It puts me to shame when comparing my spiritual lethargy with your unmarried devotion to Truth. I have thought seriously of giving up my work hereEditorial Note: Buswell was living in Cincinnati at the time and had taken up work as superintendent with the Associated Charities of Cincinnati., which is largely detail of charity, and entering the service of sweet "ScienceEditorial Note: Christian Science" unrestrained. I have shown "S.&H.Editorial Note: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy" to a number, but no one has ever expressed a desire to buy the work. Don't you think a successful practitioner must be able to teach as well? Warmest regards for all in Truth. Please write soon. I send our last annual ReportEditorial Note: See 243.39.015..
