My dear TeachersEditorial Note: Mary Baker Eddy and Asa Gilbert Eddy:

I know you will, and do, join in the joyful song of peace and power which has been my experience.

I have walked through the "fiery furnace heated ten times hotter than it is wont to be hot"Dan 3:19 ¶Then was
Nebuchadnezzar full of fury, and the form of his visage was changed against
Shadrach,
Meshach, and Abed–nego: therefore he spake, and commanded that they should heat the furnace one seven times more than it was wont to be heated.
by public fear and ignorance.

You are aware that Small-pox has been (epidemic) doubling in the common thought of our people for several months past; that our doctors--materialists--have issued the decree that he who is not vaccinated must--(die)--take the consequences. My friends, knowing of my daily exposures, were anxious, and I was often asked if I had been vaccinated.

After meeting several cases, sympathizing and "feeling" for them, I have found myself, on the 23 inst. dwelling, for a time, on their plane of thought.

For the instant I was severely shocked, my body seemed to be a "fiery furnace" indeed, a nauseous sensation was experienced, my face burned with fever and pain; I looked in the mirror and beheld the deep red and finally the pimples of smallpox. It was then that the "I" of Soul struggled with the i of sense as never before in my experience.

Turning to the sweet assuring words of "Science and HealthEditorial Note: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." I found steps which lead me up out of the "slough-pit" into the clear light of heaven. My person was pictured in colors of truth and purity, instead of disease and death.

The facial disturbance became so noticeable at one time that I was obliged to leave my quarters where several prominent physicians are boarding else be subject to their suspicion and reflection.

I earnestly pray the light of Christian Science may soon break through the black clouds of ignorance, and Truth appear universal.

With much love to you and all I am your ever grateful Student.
Arthur T. Buswell
