Dear Madam:

Your favorEditorial Note: This letter is not extant. at hand.

I will endeavor to place the position of affairs here, relating to your proposed tripEditorial Note: Mary Baker Eddy taught a class in Chicago in May 1884., to the best of my understanding, before you.

I fully appreciate the advantage to all here, who are true representatives of ScienceEditorial Note: Christian Science, that an added number from your able hand would give, but at this writing I do not know of twelve who are prepared to take instruction. I have heard indirectly of three and possibly of five from here who are intending to go to Milwaukee for that purpose upon your arrival. These only have come to my notice, no doubt there are others that I know not of.

Considering the work that has been done here and the wide-spread interest awakened, it seems to me that could you give a few preliminary lectures for that purpose, thereby reaching the notice of many interested who are unknown to us, and many who otherwise would not be aware of your coming, that the required number and many more, would be easily procured. I really think that the response to such a course would much exceed your expectations.

I hope that no obstacle will present itself to prevent or delay your coming for at this period. I think the West needs your labors.

Very Respectfully

Your Student
Roger Sherman.
