Author: Eldridge J. Smith
Recipient: Mary Baker Eddy
Date: January 8, 1881
Manuscript Description: Handwritten by Eldridge J. Smith on personalized stationery from Washington, D.C.
Editorial Note: In this letter, Smith wishes Eddy a Happy New Year. He says he's enclosing the testimonial that Eddy requested, and he mentions that he would like to purchase Eddy's new book as soon as it's ready. He says he may be interested in extra copies for friends as well. Smith tells of his disappointment at not being able to find Eddy when he visited Boston last summer. He and his wife had called at 8 Broad St. in Lynn and had been told the Eddys had moved. Smith closes his letter by telling Eddy that he is in good health and praying to live a life that is true and Christ-like. Although he is not where he wants to be spiritually, he is determined to fight on.
