Accession: 533.57.001
Editorial Title: Charles H. Colby to Mary Baker Eddy, March 12, 1883
Author: Charles H. Colby
Recipient: Mary Baker Eddy
Date: March 12, 1883
Manuscript Description: Handwritten by Charles H. Colby on embossed lined paper from Hyde Park, Massachusetts.
Editorial Note: Colby tells Mary Baker Eddy that his wife has benefited from receiving Christian Science treatment through prayer from one of Eddy's students. She wants to learn to practice Christian Science herself, but Colby says that Eddy's fee of $300 ($7,835.27 in 2016) for class instruction is at present beyond what they can afford. He asks if Eddy would be willing to teach his wife with the understanding that they will send Eddy the class fee at a later time. He says that he and his wife are well-known and respected in the community and he hopes that Eddy will grant his wife an interview. Eddy has written "answered" on the letter, but her response is not extant.
