Editorial Title: Barrett A. Cox to Mary Baker Eddy, December 14, 1883
Author: Barrett A. Cox
Recipient: Mary Baker Eddy
Date: December 14, 1883
Manuscript Description: Handwritten by Barrett A. Cox on embossed lined paper from Pittston, Maine.
Editorial Note: Cox recalls to Mary Baker Eddy a visit he had with her a week previously in which he discussed with her the case of Peter G. Bradstreet, who had been receiving Christian Science treatment through prayer from Alice B. Poole. Bradstreet had not admitted to feeling any better, but Eddy told Cox she felt that Bradstreet was going to be better and that he would admit it. The result has been that Bradstreet has said that he is greatly improved and "feeling just splendid." Cox suggested to Bradstreet that he call on Eddy, and Bradstreet replied that he would certainly do so on his next trip to Boston. Cox feels that Bradstreet has great potential to be of service to Eddy and to the Christian Science movement. There is interest in the possibility of Eddy lecturing on Christian Science in Gardiner, Maine, and Cox says that if Eddy lectures there, she is invited to stay at his home. He adds that Alice B. Poole is very successful as a Christian Science healer and has among her patients some of the best citizens of Gardiner and Pittston, Maine. Three months ago, Christian Science was hardly known in the area, but now everyone is talking about it and the wonderful cures that are taking place. In a postscript, Cox reminds Eddy that he spoke to her about his mother's illness. She is now well and wants to learn more about Christian Science.
