Please, do not address me wrongly,

I am very anxious to come to you, for a course of instruction. I believe I appreciate to the full its value, (not in a money sense for in that sense it cannot be estimated) — also, its weight of responsibility. I do not want, (I will not accept) these instructions for one cent less than the regular fee, which is quite small enough. If from your Spiritual standpointAs Written:stand point you are able to read mind, you will perceive that, though my faults may be legionMark 5:1 And they came over unto the other side of the sea, into the country of the
Gadarenes.
Mark 5:2 And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit, Mark 5:3 Who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains: Mark 5:4 Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him. Mark 5:5 And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones. Mark 5:6 But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him, Mark 5:7 And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not. Mark 5:8 For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit. Mark 5:9 And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many. Mark 5:10 And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country. Mark 5:11 Now there was there nigh unto the mountains a great herd of swine feeding. Mark 5:12 And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them. Mark 5:13 And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea. Luke 8:26 ¶And they arrived at the country of the
Gadarenes, which is over against Galilee.
Luke 8:27 And when he went forth to land, there met him out of the city a certain man, which had devils long time, and ware no clothes, neither abode in any house, but in the tombs. Luke 8:28 When he saw Jesus, he cried out, and fell down before him, and with a loud voice said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God most high? I beseech thee, torment me not. Luke 8:29 (For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For oftentimes it had caught him: and he was kept bound with chains and in fetters; and he brake the bands, and was driven of the devil into the wilderness.) Luke 8:30 And Jesus asked him, saying, What is thy name? And he said, Legion: because many devils were entered into him. Luke 8:31 And they besought him that he would not command them to go out into the deep. Luke 8:32 And there was there an herd of many swine feeding on the mountain: and they besought him that he would suffer them to enter into them. And he suffered them. Luke 8:33 Then went the devils out of the man, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the lake, and were choked.
, insincerity is not numbered among them.

One year ago I made strenuous but abortive effort to come to you.

The magnanimity with which you then held out your arms to me saying, "come, come now, - come just as you are, — come & I will lead into green pastures & beside still waters,"Ps 23:2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. — emboldens me now to ask, if you will allow me to come this present season, with the understanding that I am to pay the three hundred dollarEditorial Note: 300.00 tuition fee at my earliest possible convenience.

Also, if in exchange for shelter & board I may render service.

My wants are few & simple, my hands accustomed to work, my health perfect. My nature is singularly proud & independent & it costs me something to send you this. Only the intense hunger for the knowledge that heals constraining me.

I have been working to create an interest in this grand subjectEditorial Note: Christian Science.

My copy of "Science & Health"Editorial Note: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy is constantly on the wing, much as I value it for daily use. The past two months or more, they have been in New Orleans LouisianaAs Written:La. in the possession of Dr. Wm H. Holcombe, an eminent practicing Homeopath, a prolific medical & Theological (New ChurchEditorial Note: The New Church was a church based on the teachings of Emmanuel Swedenborg (1688 – 1772).) writer. He is a man fifty eight years of age, with organic heart disease, His theological works are admirable, but the marvel is, how, seeing so far, he does not see a little farther, — see the inconsistency of having heart disease & whining (excuse the word) about dying. He writes, in regard to your work, "I am deeply interested but not yet convinced, & wish to keep the books a month longer, to examine more thoroughly, as increased demands on my time, during exposition has enabled me to read only by snatches," I believe him to be an earnest seeker after the truth, & honest as well, & hope his eyes may be opened to see clearly, for he is admirably fitted for work. He had never heard of you or of the Science you teachEditorial Note: Christian Science until my copy was sent him. Before starting on their southern journey I loaned my books to a lady of culture with whom I have but recently become acquainted, She was deeply interested - enthusiastic & says she shall go to Boston & Study, I am encouraged to believe I shall secure you students.

A sensible, logical article in The New Church Independent fell under my eye the other day, in which the writer says, "There must come a Sanitary reformer" (some time in the future) & the informer is, it must be a woman, I cannot quote as it is not at hand. Had I his address I should write informing him of what he seems to be ignorant, — of the grand but quiet work being done in your City, — of this very "Sanitary reformer". I shall write to the Editor & endeavor to get his address.

May the Divine Wisdom hasten the day when the bells shall ring out Holiness to the LordEx 28:36 ¶And thou shalt make a plate of pure gold, and grave upon it, like the engravings of a signet, HOLINESS TO THE LORD. , — unselfish love to the whole race. Will you be kind enough to reply at once.
