Accession: 550.58.013
Editorial Title: Emma Curtis Hopkins to Mary Baker Eddy, January 22, 1884
Author: Emma Curtis Hopkins
Recipient: Mary Baker Eddy
Date: January 22, 1884
Manuscript Description: Handwritten by Emma Curtis Hopkins on lined paper from Manchester, New Hampshire.
Archival Note: A notation on the letter indicates that it was answered on January 23, 1884.
Editorial Note: Hopkins, who studied with Mary Baker Eddy in December 1883, is writing to tell Eddy that Eddy's statement about "malicious mesmerism" affecting the December 1883 class was accurate. Upon returning home to Manchester, New Hampshire, Hopkins found her husband ill and bed-ridden. Despite the protestations of friends and family, Hopkins and Mary F. Berry, another of Eddy's students, treated Hopkins' husband using Christian Science. Hopkins closes by saying that she will return to Boston when her husband is well enough, but she can return earlier if necessary.
