Accession: 589.60.003
Editorial Title: Mattie Williams to Mary Baker Eddy, December 20, 1883
Author: Mattie Williams
Recipient: Mary Baker Eddy
Date: December 20, 1883
Manuscript Description: Handwritten by Mattie Williams on lined paper from Columbus, Wisconsin.
Editorial Note: Williams is responding to a letter (not extant) that she received from Mary Baker Eddy. Eddy has forgotten to answer one of her questions, namely, the tuition required to attend one of Eddy's classes at the Massachusetts Metaphysical College. However, Williams is happy to hear the classes do not last for a long time. If they lasted for months, Williams would not be able to attend. She hopes that her husband will let her go. She has heard that Fannie M. Silsbee is planning to go to Boston to study with Eddy, and Williams hopes to go with her and attend the same class. Another resident of Columbus, Wisconsin, Mary D. Fuller, will probably go with them as well. Williams mentions several healings, brought about by Christian Science treatment through prayer, that she and her children have had. She also has a brother in poor health whom she is eager to see healed. Williams also mentions a visit from former Wisconsin governor, James T. Lewis, who was interested in obtaining Eddy's books. In a portion of the rest of the letter, Williams tells Eddy that Jennie Harvey has developed an intense hatred toward Fannie M. Silsbee.
