Editorial Note: Neall is responding to a letter from Asa Gilbert Eddy (not extant). She tells Eddy
that the Christian Science treatments her husband, Charles H. Neall, has been receiving from Eddy have not been successful in curing his rheumatism.
He is just as affected by it as before and is very discouraged. They are considering
calling in another physician. She describes her husband's symptoms and suffering.
He has been faithfully reading Science and Health. Neall does not know what to say about her husband's case and reiterates that he
is not improving under Asa Gilbert Eddy's treatment. Even though Neall had written
Eddy an encouraging letter about her own case (not extant), and she had shown it to
her husband to encourage him, she reports that she has also not been healed of one
of her ailments yet. She has pain in her head and foot and shortness of breath. She
has kept her ailments to herself and has not told her husband about them, as she fears
that hearing about them would cause him to give up in despair. She feels that surely
there ought to be some improvement. Her son's neck opens and discharges just the same
as it did before Eddy treated him. She does not want to be skeptical about the wonderful
cures Eddy has brought about for others, but she wants to know why Eddy is not able
to help her family. Friends have heard that her husband has a wonderful doctor from
Boston curing him, and they are shocked when they see his condition and feel he has
been tricked. Neall mentions some friends who are going to Boston soon to investigate
the matter. The Nealls feel they have paid Eddy a great deal of money without a good
result.
