Mrs. M. B. G. Eddy:-
Boston.
My dear Mrs. Eddy:-

I do not suppose you remember that I wrote you last fall, and you very kindly repliedEditorial Note: Eddy’s reply is not extant. - But it may not be necessary for me to repeat the history which I then gave you somewhat in brief, of myself -

On receiving your letter, I felt greatly desirous to go to you at once, but circumstances forbade, and finally I went with crippled patient, to see Dr. Sawyer of Milwaukee, WisconsinAs Written:Wis. and while there became a member of one of his classes.

And now - I want more than he can give. I must not wait, but arrange to avail myself of your instructions, as soon as I can possibly make finances adjust themselves to my wish.

As you may not remember excuse me for repeating thus I am physician of nearly a quarter of a century - have been all these years in active practice’ - "a pioneer woman doctor." - None "fought and bled and died" for the advancement of human - and now find myself blest beyond expression, in the possession of Truth - Truth which you have revealed to the world -

I must see you - Why, do you half know what you have done, and are doing for humanity? There has not arisen in all the past, one such on one as you - excepting of course, our blessed LordEditorial Note: Jesus Christ.

You have done "greater things"John 14:12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. , surely. - But I must not enthuse, and yet, why not? Only because you do not know me, and may suppose I am one who "talks only" which is not the case, far I would be judged by my works -

And this brings me to the point, 1st when do you have another class, and will the instruction thus given be suitable for one who would like to become acquainted with your methods of teaching? -

2nd What will be your terms for me. While I would gladly go without asking price or terms, so much do I appreciate your teachings, I cannot. I have lost largely in the last two years, and really spent all the ready money I had on my course at Milwaukee. But I can earn more, in my profession, enough, I hope to give me access to your class. -

Dr Sawyer said I could have especial terms with you, after I had paid fees to him, and I paid him one hundred and fifty dollarsEditorial Note: $150.00 in 1885 is the equivalent of $3,979.58 in 2019.. His price is two hundred dollarsEditorial Note: $200.00 in 1885 is the equivalent of $5,306.10 in 2019. - He allowed me fifty dollarsEditorial Note: $50.00 in 1885 is the equivalent of $1,326.53 in 2019. for a student and patient I took to him. - I have made some pretty nice demonstrations, I think - and am growing each day in the line of Truth -

Your booksEditorial Note: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy are my daily reading and study.

It is remarkable that all my patrons are rather pleasantly affected towards Metaphysics -

I long to enter the field free and boldly.- Will do so, soon as money matters will permit.

In the meantimeAs Written:mean time, I will work patiently, as I can - believing the way will open for me. -

Will you make me an agent for your books, and on what terms. I hope to induce another one or two, to attend your class, from this part of the country. - While I may not have means to go this Spring, I will be glad to know what the cost, so to plan accordingly. I do feel impatient of delay, but it must not hinder me, eventually.

I have lectured before classes in Medical Schools, and to promiscuous audiences, to ladies and before to schools for girls &c -

I do believe I could present the truths of Christian Science, acceptably - were I well prepared to do so. - To show you somewhat of my work in demonstrating, allow me to state that I took my very worse chronic case of uterine affection, lung trouble, dyspepsia & c -- and quietly went to work - She is well after after less than two weeks - In fact, was marvellously improved at once. -

I feel humbled and grateful to find myself possessed of the ability to understand.

May you long remain to give humanity of your unexampled spiritual riches -

Words are very poor – Please know then, how I love you - for what you are.

Yours very sincerely
M. Augusta Fairchild (M.D)
