Dear Mrs. Eddy,

I am a far away fragment of the "One Mind" whom you have never seen countenanced. "By their fruit ye shall know them"Matt 7:15 ¶Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Matt 7:16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Matt 7:17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. Matt 7:18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Matt 7:19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Matt 7:20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. , and I do not know of anyoneAs Written:any one else in connection with the Mass. Metaphysical College, to address. Your first volumeAs Written:vol. of Science and HealthEditorial Note: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy gives me a peep into what I long to learn. Will you be kind enough to send me a Catalogue? I wish that I could go there and be cured, then how strong would be the faith that I could feel, & inspire!

Several times my life would have brought no price in the market, and now people think "it is a pity that she has to die of consumptionEditorial Note: tuberculosis." I had never thought of it before reading your workEditorial Note: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, but I believe my whole sickness was caused by a childish disappointment eight years ago. My Father (I. E. Dwinell - formerly of Salem MassachusettsAs Written:Mass) is a minister and occupied the CongregationalAs Written:Cong. pulpit here for the last twenty years up to last Aug. He has tried to make me resigned to the fact that it is "God's Will" for me to die — but I cannot believe as he does. I am much better than I was last winter. I had been running down for three years after an attack of Gastritis, with constant irregularities and trouble. In Oct. I was taken down in a sleeping car to San FranciscoEditorial Note: San Francisco, California where I was treated for six months by Electricity. My stomach was cured but my lungs kept failing. When I was so weak that I could not sit up all day my friends were all very candid, and tried to entertain me with the "glories of Heaven" — me persisting all the time that for awhile this world was good enough for me. Finally I got as weak that I began to think perhaps I was going to die. With that thought was instantaneous the determination not to give up, until I had done certain things. One of them was to make my husband a pair of knitted undershirts. I sent for the yarn, & the directions for making them. Then I started in. My friends looking on with tears in their eyes! Well Mrs. Eddy I worked and worked, trembling with weakness. One day my Father reproved me for spending my strength that way, and said I had but a short life before me here. I replied: "Then I'll sit up nights. I will not die until I finish these two shirts".

I believe now that if I had not have made those shirts that I would have died. I got them done, & after that, grew very slowly stronger. Although I am now much stronger, still the slightest exertion, & the fewest of stairs give me great distress in breathing. A friend of mine is trying to help me in this ScienceEditorial Note: Christian Science but as she says, she is a pupil herself - just in the A. B. C. If my Father could only be convinced that it is not God's will to have sickness, his power would be great. It would be worth all I've gone through in error, (sickness) for me to be able to teach him that. It has been said that "he has gone up so high that people can't reach even his coat-tails." How much good so spiritual As Written: spirital a person could do to the sick! Pardon the liberty I have taken & believe me an interested inquirer.
