Accession: 700B.82.008
Editorial Title: A. C. Parsons to Mary Baker Eddy, September 21, 1883
Author: A. C. Parsons
Recipient: Mary Baker Eddy
Date: September 21, 1883
Manuscript Description: Handwritten by A. C. Parsons on embossed lined paper from Rochester, New York. The letter includes a handwritten notation and shorthand by Calvin A. Frye.
Editorial Note: Parsons tells Mary Baker Eddy that he is writing her at the request of his friend, Hiram Lawton, who is apparently hoping to receive Christian Science treatment through prayer from Eddy. Lawton has had a problem of inflammation of one of his eyes, which has affected the eyelids. An oculist has proposed surgery, but Parsons advised Lawton to consult with Eddy on the case. Parsons includes Lawton's address and asks that Eddy write him with her thoughts on the case, the charges for Christian Science treatment, and to let him know if his case can be treated if Lawton stays in Rochester, New York, during the treatment. Eddy's secretary, Calvin A. Frye, has included shorthand on the letter. It could possibly represent his notes on how Eddy wanted the letter to be answered, although no answer from Eddy is extant. Frye has also apparently used the letter to jot down a notation of having received $6.00 ($156.71 in 2016) for books from Clara E. Choate.
