Feb. 25th 1887.
I hoped to be able by this time to bring in some sheavesPs 126:6 He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him. – am disappointed but not at all discouraged that I cannot. I have done something and at one time my hopes were high. I had a number of patients, some of them improving miraculously (so to them). Some people named Heathwood came into the house where I am rooming. They advertised As Written: advertized in the papers as teachers of Christian As Written: Christain Science and put out a sign over the walk, They had a large number of students. A few days after they came into the house I became sick as I have not been before since coming to Denver. My patients were badly affected. Dr Wickersham who is near and has been kind to me, offered to treat me and help me out of my troubles. He knew something of Mrs. Heathwood and said that he doubted not that my ills were caused by their influence. I declined his offer knowing that I must conquer for myself at some time. Perhaps I ought not to have refused his assistance. Could I have foreseen the results I think I would have done differently. The patient who was gaining most rapidly is dead (according to belief). I fought two weeks, in darkness and wretchedness, then dismissed the patients. The Heathwoods have but lately gone to Boston to take another course of instruction. I think they study with a Miss Read and Mr. Buswell. I have no reason except Dr. W's opinion, to suppose that they maltreated me.
Light has returned to me and the words are fuller of meaning than before. I am studying only, at present.
I think some one was influencing me while I was taking the course last September. I began to feel unnatural the day I entered the class and asked questions that were not my own, and was wretched generally.
I am sure that the ScienceEditorial Note: Christian Science is true and say of you every day, "Blessed Woman."Prov 31:28 Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.
Will you please tell me how often and how long at a time a patient should be treated? Some students here who are supposed to have been well taught remain with the patient several hours at a time, treating almost constantly. That is not, according to my understanding, scientific, but the question was not brought out in the class.
Respectfully and Lovingly
