Extracts from Mrs. Eddy’s Vision in October 1881Editorial Note: This vision occurred after the sudden resignation of eight Christian Scientists from the Christian Scientist Association and the Church of Christ (Scientist)., Written by her husband Dr.Editorial Note: Asa Gilbert Eddy did not have a medical degree, but in the nineteenth century, persons practicing various “healing arts” were often called “doctor.” Asa Gilbert Eddy, and Mrs. Abbie K. Whiting, who were present on that occasion.

After the vision she heard a voice saying—“save my people”Zech 8:7 Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Behold, I will save my people from the east country, and from the west country; Zech 8:8 And I will bring them, and they shall dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God, in truth and in righteousness. —repeated three times.

Later the voice said three times—“thine hour hath come”John 12:23 ¶And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified. .

Then she became well-nigh As Written: wellnigh transfiguredMatt 17:1 And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart, Matt 17:2 And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light. Matt 17:3 And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him. Matt 17:4 Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias. Matt 17:5 While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him. Matt 17:6 And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid. Matt 17:7 And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid. Matt 17:8 And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only. Mark 9:2 ¶And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and leadeth them up into an high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them. Mark 9:3 And his raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can white them. Mark 9:4 And there appeared unto them Elias with Moses: and they were talking with Jesus. Mark 9:5 And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias. Mark 9:6 For he wist not what to say; for they were sore afraid. Mark 9:7 And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him. Mark 9:8 And suddenly, when they had looked round about, they saw no man any more, save Jesus only with themselves. Luke 9:28 ¶And it came to pass about an eight days after these sayings, he took Peter and John and James, and went up into a mountain to pray. Luke 9:29 And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and glistering. Luke 9:30 And, behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elias: Luke 9:31 Who appeared in glory, and spake of his decease which he should accomplish at Jerusalem. Luke 9:32 But Peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep: and when they were awake, they saw his glory, and the two men that stood with him. Luke 9:33 And it came to pass, as they departed from him, Peter said unto Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias: not knowing what he said. Luke 9:34 While he thus spake, there came a cloud, and overshadowed them: and they feared as they entered into the cloud. Luke 9:35 And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him. Luke 9:36 And when the voice was past, Jesus was found alone. And they kept it close, and told no man in those days any of those things which they had seen. II Pet 1:16 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty. II Pet 1:17 For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. II Pet 1:18 And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount. before us, her face luminous with joy, with the bliss she was beholding, and she spoke to us, as if “absent from the body and present with the Lord”II Cor 5:6 Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: II Cor 5:7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) II Cor 5:8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. Is this As Written: Isthis humiliation? Is this the dishonor that my oppressors would heap upon me? Oh what exaltation of spirit hath made thee rule over many thingsMatt 25:14 ¶For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods. Matt 25:15 And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey. Matt 25:26 His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed: Matt 25:27 Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury. Matt 25:28 Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents. Matt 25:29 For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath.
