My dear friend,

Your late letterEditorial Note: Smith's letter to Eddy, dated February 12, 1877 (382.50.005). was like a balm to the mind burdened ever with a sense of the world's dull hear ear and grossnessMatt 13:15 For this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

One thing is ever yours and mine-the calm and comforting thought that harmony is the only reality of being. All that discords has no Principle or proof. The grief of your dear wife is without a cause, we grieve for our dear ones and call them gone from us, but this is our dream and not the reality in the case and we separate only on the ground of belief namely, that the body dies, but the body never lived then how can it die? There is no Life in matter Comfort your wife for me with the blessed assurances of Science that when we wake to understand Life we shall have no partings This waking begins with the first chord of the science of Life understood, and this keynote is that there is no Life substance or Intelligence in matterMary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures468:8Question. — What is the scientific statement of being?
468:9Answer. — There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor sub‐
stance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite
manifestation, for God is All-in-all. Spirit is immortal
468:12Truth; matter is mortal error. Spirit is the real and
eternal; matter is the unreal and temporal. Spirit is
God, and man is His image and likeness. Therefore
468:15man is not material; he is spiritual.
. There is in reality no partings for Love, no pain, no sickness, sin, or death; all that is real is eternal. God and the idea of God which is perfect in every sense, is all that is real or eternal

Ever remember this. I hope you both can join my next class. Will come as soon as I can to see you but I am teaching now

Come both of you and visit us. Ever truly
