Bradford, Charles A. S. Troup and Calvin A. Frye, who together constitute an Association, doing business under the style of the "Christian Science Publishing Society," all my right, title and interest in the property called the "Christian Science Journal," including its subscription list and all rights and property connected therewith, and all benefits and advantages to be derived therefrom of every name and nature.
But it is understood and agreed that I am still to retain control of the matter to be published in its columns, and my power to reject shall be absolute over any matter that I deem unwise, derogatory, or perilous to the cause of Christian Science. [*]Archival Note: The following text was later added to the document by the author or another annotator, disrupting the surrounding thought. And there shall be no law [*]Archival Note: End floating text.
And it is hereby distinctly covenanted and agreed that if matter is published in said Journal which I thus think is detrimental, in spite of my rejection or opposition or decision to the contrary, such publication shall work a forfeiture of this conveyance and the property and rights hereby conveyed, in the condition in which they then are, shall immediately become mine As Written: mime with the right to take immediate possession as absolute owner.
And it is farther understood and agreed that said Society shall copyright said publication, but that notwithstanding such copyright, I shall still have the right to use such Articles as I contribute to it, in any way or in any form that I may choose, and without any liability for so doing: and whenever it may be deemed desirable, or I may so wish, proper assignments or transfers of copyright shall be made.
And to all the foregoing, the undersigned Crosse, Gill, Bradley, Bradford, Troup and Frye, composing the firm of the Christian Science Publishing Society, assent and agree, and take said title subject to said liability of forfeiture, and will allow the said Eddy to use her own Articles in any way or form she may wish, notwithstanding said copyrights are obtained.
And it is farther mutually understood and agreed, that this sale has been made, and this title assumed by said Society or firm, not for individual profit, but for the sole purpose of using any profits that can be made out of the publication for the purpose of paying for a site and erecting thereon a church edifice for the use of the Church of Christ (Scientist). And all parties hereto agree that until such site and edifice have been paid for in full in some way no profits of said publication shall be used by or for the benefit of any of the grantees herein. But after such result grantees shall be free to use such profits as they may desire.
And it is farther agreed by the parties herein that said Crosse and others will exercise their best judgment and business experience and skill to sustain said publication and keep up and if possible increase its merits and influence and to enlarge its subscription so far as they may have power to do: And also that the said Eddy shall be allowed for her advertising as much space as she has heretofore occupied, should she so desire, without charge or expense.
