You were deprived of a mother in early years and now because of your goodness God has tenderly given you both teacher and mother. But I have a cross to take upMatt 16:24 ¶Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. Luke 9:23 ¶And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. Again thanking you deeply for your loving unselfish purposes and for the good you do also realizing as I do that Mrs Stetson has done well in many things but needs to change in that whereof I write. I will close by saying it is best that you do not mention to her the contents of this letter but try to do her good by reason of it, and after reading and digesting it to your own benefit, return it to me without retaining so much as a copy of it. Here I must add that if she knows I have written or suspects what is the contents of my letter she may mentally treat you and so change its beneficial effect and that would harm both of you
