Brother AcklandEditorial Note: James Ackland. Early Christian Scientists often called each other "brother" or "sister."

Mrs. Eddy being away from home I hasten to answer your note of Sep 30thEditorial Note: This note is not extant.

I should say that the recurrence of the brothers rheumatic belief was caused by the mals continuously saying to you that if you treated patients they would relapse and be worse for your treating them that they would lose all confidence in you etc. You should begin by cutting As Written: cuting off all possibility of the mals reaching your patient through you to any such results and it is science to hold your patients confidence in order to cure him and it is science for you now to reclaim your patient and to cure him make him better and realize that he is better and that it was but a chemicalEditorial Note: This refers to "chemicalization," a term Mary Baker Eddy used to refer to a temporary stirring up of symptoms or process of "fermentation" as errors of various types are being destroyed. that made him worse for the time but that having passed off As Written: of he is better and would be cured by coming back to you and paying you promptly and you know he can be cured in no other way

You should quit your patient the moment he stops paying you saying as Jesus said that the laborer is worthy of his hireLuke 10:1 After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come. Luke 10:2 Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest. Luke 10:3 Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves. Luke 10:4 Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes: and salute no man by the way. Luke 10:5 And into whatsoever house ye enter, first say, Peace be to this house. Luke 10:6 And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon it: if not, it shall turn to you again. Luke 10:7 And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house. Luke 10:8 And into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you: Luke 10:9 And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you. but make him feel that you are honest and truly interested in his recovery then unbeknown As Written: unbknown to your patient take him up as I have before stated improve reclaim and cure him

You will have no trouble in holding your patients if you are always on the watch, first watch yourself and if a thought suggests itself to you that is contrary to the instructions of your teacher of Science and Health or to discourage your vigorous effort to heal your patients or to turn you into some other kind of labor dismiss it at once then watch to see that in treating your patient you cut off all possibility of the malls or any other parties As Written: partys reaching him and positively take the control of his mind in ScienceEditorial Note: Christian Science and cure him

Hope when I hear from you again you will have twenty five patients please write often

Truly Yours
