My dear Mrs Eddy,

Bear with me once more; Your dear letterEditorial Note: This letter is not extant. in answer to mine of Monday last, came to hand last evening I read it to Mr Williams as do I all my communications he made no comment whatever, He does not know I wrote you again on Thursday and I do not wish him to. He may have been trying me. of late he seems to put upon me all I am able to bear. Sometimes he seems to relent and then Pharaoh like his heart seems hardened. You know he promised so often to let the Children of Israel go and then he repented and would not and all the time the hardening process was going on.Editorial Note: The book of Exodus recounts a number of instances in which Pharaoh at first agrees and then refuses letting the Children of Israel leave their enslavement in Egypt. The author of Exodus attributes these refusals to Pharaoh’s heart becoming “hardened.” God only can deliver me from this bondage. You may write me just as you propose to do one week or more before the class will open. I told him that I had written you that he had consented to my going to B.Editorial Note: Boston, Massachusetts to study with you. My dear friend Mrs Fuller thinks maybe he will yet do by me as he ought. How wrong to tell me I could go, and then in a few days say you may go, if you will not return. I cried till I was nearly ill. Had I not striven against it, I should have given up, but I prayed so earnestly for strength, and it was given me. And again hope revives. On Sabbath evening last Mr W. brought the “Times daily” with an article taken from the “Boston Advertiser”. “Boston Miracles” was the heading. No doubt you saw the same The enemies of “Christian Science” went about rejoicing for a few days I was not a little amused at the untruthfulness of the whole thing. Evidently the ScienceEditorial Note: Christian Science is assuming illegible proportions among the better classes, our enemies are in consternation, “ These that have turned the world upside down are come hither alsoActs 17:5 ¶But the Jews which believed not, moved with envy, took unto them certain lewd fellows of the baser sort, and gathered a company, and set all the city on an uproar, and assaulted the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people. Acts 17:6 And when they found them not, they drew Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also; ” may well be applied to our time. From their account by the prince of devils this work is done.Matt 9:32 ¶As they went out, behold, they brought to him a dumb man possessed with a devil. Matt 9:33 And when the devil was cast out, the dumb spake: and the multitudes marvelled, saying, It was never so seen in Israel. Matt 9:34 But the Pharisees said, He casteth out devils through the prince of the devils. Matt 12:22 ¶Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw. Matt 12:23 And all the people were amazed, and said, Is not this the son of David? Matt 12:24 But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils. Matt 12:25 And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand: Matt 12:26 And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand? Matt 12:27 And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? therefore they shall be your judges. Matt 12:28 But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you. Luke 11:14 ¶And he was casting out a devil, and it was dumb. And it came to pass, when the devil was gone out, the dumb spake; and the people wondered. Luke 11:15 But some of them said, He casteth out devils through Beelzebub the chief of the devils. But they must be forgiven for they know not what they do.Luke 23:33 And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left. Luke 23:34 ¶Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots. Some say of me they do not believe I was ill, it was all imagination, and I took too much medicine and now that I have left off taking it I am better. (I am not better I am well) – Some say I use my will, and that is how I stand – Some say I am insane. Others I soon will be. Some call me a fanatic. I seem to be hated of many who for years have been proferred friends. Many stand aloof from me. And seem to hold me as their avowed enemy. “ God is my refuge a very present help in time of trouble”Ps 46:1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. . I have nothing to fear – Mrs Klepser continues silent last evening I received two of my Sons letters which I sent to Miss Harvey to read two or three months ago. not one word accompanied them She is evidently very angry and I have no doubt she influences Mrs Klepser – I would not turn against Mrs Silsbee and that was the cause of the trouble I could not. I certainly had no reason to do so I was healed through her treatment. I have had little acquaintance with Miss Harvey for the past twenty years. We were school mates for a short time in our girlhood days. Mrs K. I think a lovely lady. but I think she is under Miss H.s control and so too is Geo Klepser. but I think him a kind hearted man but not self reliant – I read your letter to Mrs Fuller she is firm in the faith and will be happy when the word comes for her to go. She says we will hope I may go till the last minute. Do not write me till you write to say when the College opens – I thought I would not trouble you to read an other communication from me. but you will surely find time to read my poor letter between now and the end of the month. I know you must have your dear heart and hands full. GeorgieEditorial Note: George Williams and Charlie thank you for remembering them. And wish me to send love for them. They hope sometime you may visit us in our “Western” home. Should you come we will do all in our power to make your visit a happy one. I did not think dear friend that you intimated that I thought to be untrue to my husband. How often are we misunderstood in written communications are we not? How unsatisfactory they are to espress what we would espress orally – But love will cover a multitude of errors will it not?Prov 10:12 Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins. I Pet 4:8 And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins. Dont forget to write just as if I were coming. We will trust all to our dear Heavenly Father. Mrs Fuller wishes to be remembered. I have two other lady friends that hold with me And one or two weak in the faith but hope it is true one gentleman in our little city is on the side of Christian Science, and farther I can not say. So you see how little progress truth has made –

Yours in love and Truth,

Mrs John Williams.

I will write her however this evening and learn if possible if she intends to study during this present winter. Mrs Fuller and I have many a joyous hour together She is some years my senior.
