Yours of recent date came duly

I have some things that seem to me important to say on matters relating to our business in Chicago but I ask you to consider them strictly confidential

A gentleman called on me last week hailing from your city by the name of CharlesEditorial Note: Possibly George B. Charles He gave a glowing description of himself but not so much that was favorable of others

He said you could not heal to any extent that he wished to introduce my systemEditorial Note: Christian Science into a higher circle than you had done and was here to be taught it In his second call he informed me his choice of teachers lie between Mr. Dresser, and E. J. Arens of this city and myself!

I told him to leave me out that I was not in that ring. [[ . ]] They were not my competitors

He then asked me for my book Science and Health and wished to subscribe for my JournalEditorial Note: The Christian Science Journal It was Sat. Night He had promised to call before that made an appointment but had not kept it I was not decided about selling any more of this edition to anyoneAs Written:any one who called for the books and had told my clerkEditorial Note: Probably Calvin A. Frye that until I had more printed as they were selling so fast I feared another could not be got out before this edition was sold So I said to him I cannotAs Written:can not answer you about the book tonight but call Monday and I think you can have it. I was going to count my books before then

He never called and I suppose he is studying with those humbugsEditorial Note: Julius A. Dresser and Edward J. Arens what they falsely call metaphysical Healing

He called you a "fizzle" and laying claims like the "grand Mogul" to a monopolyAs Written:monoply of my book

P.S. Among other unpleasant subjects is one that I herein name the utter falsehood promulgated by Messers Kennedy Arens and Dresser, that Dr. Quimby was the founder of Metaphysical Healing.

I can give you the whole history of this malicious report Dr. Quimby's son in BelfastEditorial Note: Belfast, Maine has said in writing that he has all his father's manuscripts As Written: Mss. And Dresser,

here in Boston, is holding an exhibit two pages that he says belonged to Quimby. These are mine directly or indirectly MSS that I left in the home's of Kennedy when like a Mother caring for a child I wrote 300 pages and over for him to study before I printed anything, and gave him permission to copy them. Now Mr. Sherman, I wish you would see that this falsehood of theirs is corrected so far as your influence goes I have done all the hard work for eighteen years to found my systemEditorial Note: Christian Science and now these envious ignoramuses are working to destroy what I have built up Mr. Charles is on their side and against me and you no matter what he appears, I know their mesmerism has accomplished Look out for him
