Dear Madam,

Your favorEditorial Note: This letter is not extant. at hand

I shall be pleased to take you for a pupil but the terms of payment that you made are impractical for two reasons I have a fixed rule to receive tuition in advance and the

rooms in the College are every one occupied

But I can and will take you in my next classEditorial Note: Emma Curtis Hopkins was a student in Mary Baker Eddy’s class that began on December 27, 1883. which will commence as soon after New Years as possible

Please say nothing of this to anyoneAs Written:any one but your husband and when you are able to pay me do as it seemeth one’s As Written: ones duty under such circumstances

I have no husbandEditorial Note: Mary Baker Eddy’s husband, Asa Gilbert Eddy, died on June 3, 1882., and no help in the arduous As Written: ardous tasks I perform but my heavenly Father whose love is the only solace of my lone life
