Dear Mrs. Eddy:-

Can I come to you for a little advice?

I want to know why my patients don't get well faster?

They do finely for some days until they begin to chemicalizeEditorial Note: “Chemicalization is a term Mary Baker Eddy used to refer to a temporary stirring up of symptoms or process of “fermentation” as errors of various types are being destroyed.; then they seem to stand still, and their chemicals don't seem to do them the good I wish they did. I guess I am not very spiritual and need rebuking. They get just so far along, and then stop short. For instance, I have a lady with catarrh (in belief) and she seems to stand just where she was two or three weeks ago, and another lady that has a belief of internal heat or inflammationAs Written:inflamation.

They are both well except these little things that hang on, and one can't seem to uproot that thought. Could you give me the clue to our weakness there? I come to you when I can't get along any longer, Mrs. Eddy, and please excuse me for taking up your time; but your letters are like streaks of sunshine in our lives down here.

It comes like an inspiration from you -- a word of encouragement.

I see in the last Journal you want worthy students to show credentials.

Now we can't do that if any one should require them of us. Would you help us there?

There is a Miss Crowell going to, or rather studying with Dr. Buswell so we wont be quite alone; and Mrs. Phillips is going to study with you, is she not? I feel so glad to have someone As Written: some one interested it helps our causeEditorial Note: The cause of Christian Science. along here, and there is a great deal of unbelief at present. You know a man is "not without honor, etc."Matt 13:57 And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, save in his own country, and in his own house. Matt 13:58 And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief. Mark 6:4 But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house. Mark 6:5 And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them. Mark 6:6 And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching.

We would like to hear from you when you can get a chance, and I would particularly like to know about what keeps my patients at a stand still. They have the booksEditorial Note: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy and I treat them for mesmerism. I took two persons with the same belief and one was all right in a day, and the other has been coming for a month and still sticks.

By answering this question you will greatly oblige us as we waited for some weeks before imposing on you.

Please accept As Written: except my love, Mrs. Eddy, and believe me your loving student.
