Editorial Title: Silas J. Sawyer to Mary Baker Eddy, December 10, 1883
Author: Silas J. Sawyer
Recipient: Mary Baker Eddy
Date: December 10, 1883
Manuscript Description: Handwritten by Silas J. Sawyer on lined printed stationery of his dental practice, from Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Editorial Note: Sawyer is writing to Mary Baker Eddy, informing her of the repercussions of the cancellation of Clara E. Choate's visit to Milwaukee. According to Sawyer, Jennie Harvey has written to Mattie Williams, blaming Sawyer for the cancellation of Choate's visit and that William G. Swan holds Sawyer responsible for the ineffectual Christian Science treatment he has received. Sawyer contradicts Williams and says that he has visited Swan and that the unrest in Milwaukee began after Fannie B. Silsbee's began using her "unfortunate method" to treat Swan. Sawyer is making preparations to come to Boston in early 1884 so that he can take class with Eddy, and he also hopes that she will take Silsbee as a student. He tells Eddy that he receives frequent enquiries from people who want to learn about Christian Science, and he hopes that Eddy or one of her students will still come to Milwaukee to teach and give public lectures.
