My beloved Teacher.

Your most welcome favor of the 19th instEditorial Note: This letter is not extant. receivedAs Written:rec'd.

Next to hearing from you; is the pleasure of telling you of our hopes, and the blessings ScienceEditorial Note: Christian Science confers upon faithful workers. We are sure you rejoice with us, though you cannot say it on a return sheet. I believe that I never understood you as I do now. nor has my ambition led in the direction it now does. That ambition is to know when God speaks, and then follow His direction. I want to know that I am in ScienceEditorial Note: Christian Science in everythingAs Written:every thing I undertake. I am growing suspicious, my teacher, only in one direction; that is that I may be betrayed into following my material sense, or rather personal sense of right; thus misleading those about me. Also I am striving, or exercising a rigid surveillance over my interpretations of your directions. The discipline is good, and it is strengthening me.

My dear friend, and mother, I believe that within the past month, I can truly say, that I have grasped a little of your great desire for the promulgation of ScienceEditorial Note: Christian Science, and your students' As Written: students aim.

The meaning of Jesus' As Written: Jesus words, "Follow Me"Matt 9:9 ¶And as Jesus passed forth from thence, he saw a man, named Matthew, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he saith unto him, Follow me. And he arose, and followed him. , and to forsake houses, lands, father and mother, sisters, brothers and wife for My sakeMatt 19:29 And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name’s sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life. Mark 10:29 And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel’s, Mark 10:30 But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life. Luke 18:29 And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children, for the kingdom of God’s sake, Luke 18:30 Who shall not receive manifold more in this present time, and in the world to come life everlasting. , for Divine ScienceEditorial Note: Christian Science, are my constant companions now.

I am striving to obey; it is slow, but it is certain; for I am gradually putting my affairs into such shape that there will be no incumbrances to freedom of action. Tomorrow I start for OcontoEditorial Note: Oconto, Wisconsin and Green BayEditorial Note: Green Bay, Wisconsin. Shall speak in the Methodist EpiscopalAs Written:M. E. Church at Green Bay Thursday. and in Oconto– Mrs SargentEditorial Note: Laura E. Sargent or Victoria H. Sargent has not informed me of the place yet.

I have a double. purpose in this trip. first lecture in the midst of some Mind-cure influences at Green Bay, and help a Student there. Also I shall make the arrangements about Mrs S– InstituteEditorial Note: Mary Baker Eddy had asked Laura E. Sargent to establish an “Institute” for the purpose of teaching Christian Science. See 236.38.012.. I received a letter from Miss Bradshaw, inquiring about InstitutesEditorial Note: Mary Baker Eddy had asked Sue Ella Bradshaw to establish an “Institute” for the purpose of teaching Christian Science in California. See 183.31.009, L04634, and L04635.; and sent her some information. about it: so we are quite busy in this direction. I can prepare Miss Bradshaw's ArticlesEditorial Note: This is apparently a reference to Articles governing the establishing of Sue Ella Bradshaw’s Institute for the teaching of Christian Science in California. here, so that she will have but little to do herself.

EverythingAs Written:Every thing is working smoothly with Mrs L– N. Y.Editorial Note: New York, New York She wrote meEditorial Note: This letter is not extant. that she had taken no steps with the party I wrote you of, and desires me to go ahead.

Never have I been so occupied in the labors of ScienceEditorial Note: Christian Science; but I am not weary, only happy; desiring to continue just as busy. I recommended Miss Tobey to do just as Miss B– desired: believing that when God needed Miss Tobey at this point the direction will be indicated.

When we can see AEditorial Note: Possibly Jennie E. Sawyer come into perfect accord with us, in our outside labor; outside this cityEditorial Note: Milwaukee, Wisconsin I mean, then harmony will reign supreme in the Wisconsin Metaphysical Institute: and it will come I feel sure, at least we labor on strong in hope.

Ever faithfully Yours
