Editorial Title: Alfred Lang to Mary Baker Eddy, May 25, 1882
Author: Alfred Lang
Recipient: Mary Baker Eddy
Date: May 25, 1882
Manuscript Description: Handwritten by Alfred Lang on lined embossed paper from Lawrence, Massachusetts.
Editorial Note: Lang replies to Mary Baker Eddy's letter dated May 23, 1882 (L07825). He says that he was called away unexpectedly to attend the funeral of a friend and that he has given his daughter, Susie M. Lang (a member of Eddy's class of May 1882), $200 ($5,045.91 in 2016) in partial payment of her tuition for the class. He tells Eddy that he is doing his best to keep his agreement with Eddy to pay $100 ($2,522.96 in 2016) per week during the three-week long class. Lang refers to a "false start" that Eddy caused Lang and his daughter, Susie, to make and reminds Eddy that she agreed to pay them the $5.00 ($126.15 in 2016) this cost them. Therefore, instead of a check for $100.00 ($2,522.96 in 2016), he will send his daughter a check for $95.00 ($2,396.81 in 2016) next week with which to pay Eddy. He hopes and believes that this will meet with Eddy's approval.
