My Dear Teacher

I have been intending to write you for some timeAs Written:sometime it does me so much good to receive As Written: recieve a letter from you but there has always seemed to be something to prevent me but I have not had anything of importance to write about and I know that Mr Morrill has written you often. We are expecting to form an association here. I know that we shall become more of a target then, for of course the object will be to break us up, I have no fear for myself, but the new ones are so hard to understand the subtlety of this question it is hard for them to comprehend that Error (Mortal Mind) Counterfeits good in every particular and endeavors to assume its proportions Several of them have been to me for light on some things, Dr Morrill, Mrs GesterfeldtMiss BickfordBeecher Mr Smith, Mr Wickersham, I have done all that I could to help them – I have thought it funny though that Morrill & Wickersham should come to me instead of going to Old Dr Sherman when they were former students of his – I did not go see Mrs Coursen for I knew that she would consider it very presumptuous on my part and that I should be very unwelcome for if she couldn’t As Written: couldnt receive As Written: recieve what you had said she surely could not receive As Written: recieve what I had to say – Her effort has seemed to be too As Written: to reflect all she could on the instructions she had received As Written: recieved from you she says that she could not do anything The way you Taught her, and after trying it awhile she returned to her former method, and she did not succeed as well that way as she had before, but she was in hopes to get back where she was before she studied with you – but she continues teaching in her old way, and her students help her, she has someoneAs Written:some one to help her all of the time.

I am rapidly losing my fear for I am beginning to realize the utter nothingness of the opposite of God and that there really is no power in Malice however concentrated or consolidated it may appear it is simply an appearance – and I know that if I heal with the truth that my superstructure will stand against the breakers and storms of Error, malice, or mortal mind, or whatever else the lie may name itself, because it is built on God –

My BusinessEditorial Note: “Business” here probably refers to Noyes’ Christian Science practice. however has not been as good as before you came, but I have made up my mind that my Business is just as good as I deserve it to be, and it is improving and that my success is just as good as I deserve it to be, that I have had a good deal to contend with I know, because I am understood to be one of the first here, but I appreciate that what I surmount now will not have to be done at any future time, and the sooner I overcome it the better, I can see that this (Statement) Malice has its uses for it for it forces us higher – In regard to the Paper that brave little sheet, I will do what I can but I do not think it can be more than one dollarEditorial Note: $1.00 in 1884 is the equivalent of $27.69 in 2017. per month, for My Husband you know failed in BostonEditorial Note: Gideon P.
