The following is a report of the Nov. meeting of scientistsEditorial Note: Christian Scientists in Chicago:
Regular meeting of the Chicago Branch C. S. A.Editorial Note: The Chicago Christian Scientist Association was a branch of the Christian Scientist Association in Boston, Massachusetts. was held at the rooms of Mrs. Philbrick & Miss Beecher. Thursday, Nov. 5, 1885. President Brown present, but expecting to leave before the meeting was out, Roger Sherman was appointed chairman pro tem. There were nine members present.
The meeting was opened at 4.00 P. M. by the members rising and uniting in the Lord's PrayerMatt 6:9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Matt 6:10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Matt 6:11 Give us this day our daily bread. Matt 6:12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. Matt 6:13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. -
As Miss Brown wished to go very soon the reading of the minutes was postponed & Mrs. Eddy's address to the Asso, written Oct. 11Editorial Note: See V00903., was read, in which she stated the conspiracy which had drawn away the manager & ass't editor of the Journal, purposing, throughAs Written:thro' mal. mes. to break it down, & asking us for our support & loyalty to her & her causeEditorial Note: The cause of Christian Science. throughAs Written:thro' this coming crisis. Miss Brown talked to us a few moments concerning this conspiracy & the efforts being made against the causeEditorial Note: The cause of Christian Science., & enjoined our strict adherence As Written: adherance to the Truth & Mrs Eddy. Remarks from other members - some say that those who have really tasted Truth cannot fall out of the ranks of ScienceEditorial Note: Christian Science, while others feel that there is great need of the closest watching; for the staunchest members have gone over. Report of CommitteeAs Written:Comm. on membership called for– Miss Brown would like a special meeting to receive members, in which there would be very much less said about the enemy, that they might not receive a bad impression upon entering. Mr. Smith suggests that we have different members write & read some article on the subject of Christian ScienceAs Written:C. S. at the meetings. Miss Brown will notify the new candidates, of the examination. She thinks it would be to do away with examinations entirely because the normal class are supposed to be responsible for the kind of students they teach & suggests that we have the condition of entering depend upon the student's acceptance of platform of Christian ScienceAs Written:C.
