Dear Madam:–

Your favor receivedAs Written:rec'd. Mrs. Dr. Sam taught me to heal mentally. She was for sixteen years a very successful practitioner of the old school of medicine. Some months ago she studied Mental Science with Dr. ShermanEditorial Note: Bradford Sherman or Roger Sherman of ChicagoEditorial Note: Chicago, Illinois (a pupil of Mrs. Eddy's), since which time she has taught & practiced this way.

For myself I am not afraid to practice and teach, I am doing both, but thus far much of it has been gratuitous.

I started out to do this work from pure love to God and suffering As Written: suffring humanity; but I find the world so selfish & unappreciative that I conclude I may as well work for money if I work at all.

I'm sorry to feel this way: it surely isn't ChristlikeAs Written:Christ-like, & I wish to walk in the "narrow way"Matt 7:13 ¶Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Matt 7:14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. .

I am hungry for more of these blessed Truths, & I think Mrs. Eddy would make clear much that now seems dim & uncertain.

I know Christian Science for my lifeworkAs Written:life work by the way that my whole being yields to it.

Thanking you for Your Kindness

I remain
Very truly Yours
Nettie P. Belden.
