Accession: 493.55.010
Editorial Title: Laurin W. Holden to Asa Gilbert Eddy, December 20, 1879
Author: Laurin W. Holden
Recipient: Asa Gilbert Eddy
Date: December 20, 1879
Manuscript Description: Handwritten in black ink (postscript in pencil) by Laurin W. Holden on printed stationery that reads "Law and Insurance Office of L. W. Holden, South Londonderry, Vermont."
Archival Note: The transfer of this mortgage to Mary Baker Eddy's son, as explained in this letter, was probably an attempt to safeguard the property from being taken by George W. Barry after he was granted a monetary award in the lawsuit, Barry v. Glover. Mary Baker Eddy, in October 1879, had apparently done the same for the mortgage on her home at 8 Broad Street, Lynn, Massachusetts.
Editorial Note: Holden says in this letter that he is sending Asa Gilbert Eddy a mortgage deed for a farm, owned by Eddy, in Londonderry, Vermont. Holden asks Eddy to have Mary Baker Eddy's son, George Washington Glover II, sign it before a Justice or a Notary Public. He says that Glover should have two witnesses and hire a good lawyer to see that it is done correctly. Holden provides other details as to what is required. He suggested that Glover insure the buildings on the farm and tells Asa Gilbert Eddy that since he (Holden) is an insurance agent, he would like to draw up the insurance papers himself.
