Away up amid the rock-ribbed As Written: rockribbed hills and valleys of my native stateEditorial Note: New Hampshire I turn to the sweet memories of thee and pen you a few struggling thoughts just as they occur

I came to the home of my girlhood the day we parted but I was sad all the way and feel so still. Change has been busy here, all that was dear to memory has taken another hue, and new and stranger hands have changed and depredated the pleasant old home. The day after my arrival here I made my lonely way to the cemeteryEditorial Note: Park Cemetery, Tilton, New Hampshire where rest the remains of my parentsEditorial Note: Mark Baker and Abigail Ambrose Baker and brothersEditorial Note: Albert Baker; George Sullivan Baker; Samuel D. Baker. I felt like a pilgrim As Written: pelgrim on the way to Mecca and as I look forward to the land of souls, I know that my hopes, and joys, and affections, have gone thither, and it only needs the veil As Written: vail to be lifted to let me intoAs Written:in to those glorious realities, and close the door of earthly ills and illusions– so that the gulf between this and that can never be bridged over by the false beliefs of returning spirits

Well, dear one, how are you progressing in the true christianity? are you able to follow our MasterEditorial Note: Jesus Christ in the resurrection and lifeJohn 11:25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: of healing the sick and bringing immortality to lightII Tim 1:10 But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel: ? do not follow afar off, nor hold on to opinions and former beliefs to the detriment of this "light that shineth amid darkness but the darkness comprehendeth it not,"John 1:5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. ― afar off, not because you would do this, but only because you cannot realize that you and the Father are oneJohn 10:30 I and my Father are one. and thus hold all intelligence in God and none in man O is this not a new birth to be thus taken away from all former beliefs and born not of the flesh but of the spiritJohn 3:1 There was a man of the Pharisees, named
Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:
John 3:2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. John 3:4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born? John 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. John 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. John 3:7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
and thus lose our fetters and gain the full liberty of the sons and daughters of GodRom 8:21 Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. , not of man, but of God. They were glad to see me on my arrival, but really all is so changed since last I were here that I feel as if I never wanted to come again Even the Clergyman that I listened to so many years is gone, and death has hidden most of the old members from our view I expect to leave here the first of next week My love to Mrs. Richardson
