Your letter of May 23d, 1907Editorial Note: See 084.18.001, reached Mrs. Eddy, and was read by our Leader with great interest.
Mrs. Eddy asked me to say to you, in reply, that to have the Christian Science text-bookEditorial Note: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy translated into GermanEditorial Note: Mary Baker Eddy approved the translation of the Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures into German in 1910, and the German edition was published in 1912. would afford her the keenest satisfaction and joy. It would gratify a long wished for hope of our Leader's. Our Leader fully appreciates much that you say in favor of a German translation.
Some time ago our Leader received a similar request from Countess Fannie von Moltke. This prompted Mrs. Eddy to go into the matter quite thoroughly with Countess von Moltke, with the result that the latter finally wrote to Mrs. Eddy giving it as her opinion that it is not practical to translate Science and Health with Key to the ScripturesEditorial Note: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy into German and still preserve the full scientific meaning which is conveyed by English.
However, Mrs. Eddy would like very much to have a correct German translation, if it could be had, and wishes you might be the means of overcoming the difficulties which have heretofore been encountered.
Mrs. Eddy suggests that, after you have finished making a translation of the, chapter entitled RecapitulationEditorial Note: "Recapitulation" is a chapter in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy., which you say you are now working on, you send your translation to Mr. Archibald McLellan, C.S.B., care of Christian Science Publishing Society, 250 huntington Ave., Boston, MassachusettsAs Written:Mass. The results you attain with this very important chapter will serve to indicate whether or not it is practicable to bring out the results our Leader wishes to arrive at.
Assuring you of our Leader's appreciation of your kind interest in this work, and expressing her kindest wishes,
