Dear Student,

Since you were here and spoke to me so severely in regard to what Mrs. Choate is reported as having said, I feel it a duty to write you briefly on the subject

In the first place, I would remind you of your obligations as a Christian not “ to render evil for evil, but to overcome evil with good.I Thess 5:15 See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men. That As Written: that is the demand of the scripture and of Christian Science, and one which I have always obeyed until by my endeavors I I have failed to reform them and then I have stopped, but never until then.

I shall be obliged to rebuke you moderately by saying, that I fear neither of you exercise a purely Christian As Written: christian character towards one another judging As Written: juding from what I hear, and see myself, and I hope you both will see the need there is of doing this and the great injury it is to the causeEditorial Note: The Cause of Christian Science. to have things go on between you as they are at present.

All the teaching and healing of which you are capable can never do as much towards advancing in the eyes of the just, Christian Science, as a meek, charitable and unselfish life, such as this scienceEditorial Note: Christian Science must bring out in every one who understands it and practices it

One thing in relation to myself permit me to call your attention to, viz. You can see the need I have of funds to support my present immense bills and you are aware that I take no pay to the amount of the cost of furniture and time for my Sunday As Written: sunday services, and have no pay for all the rest of my labors, but for my teaching. Now will you not put your tuition for a student up to mine, and send me those who want to study and so support in part in this way the Metaphysical College that is going to benefit you and all my true students much more than myself

Lovingly Yours
