Dear Brother.

It was so kind of you to write me such a good letter and I appreciate it and the dear Mothers advice. I will take her advice at once, but will send another letter to shew you what he says about being under Dowie so many years – one who has done more mischief against Christian ScienceAs Written:C.S. than anyoneAs Written:any one in Chicago. This claim that seems so tenacious defying my work & the work of others struck me the way this Church was organized & Mr. Day appointed as Pastor– Mrs. Linscott was Chairman - they appointed me an office & when Mrs. Linscott put the question to me to know if I would accept it the hard switching went into the ear & it frightened me, the same day Mr Bell turned from C. S. & from that date my troubles began. When the Mother disorganized at New York Ass. relief came & for ten days I could hear perfect. I heard no ones address there but Dr. Eddy & strange to say I heard every word he said distinctly & all said he spoke lower than anyoneAs Written:any one. At the Mothr Church when she disorganized her Association — exquisite relief came into my ears & the day we all spent at Mothers I heard perfect & for a week after returning home the relief was something wonderful– After that a hard bony substance about quarter of an inch long & larger than a pinheadAs Written:pin head came from the left ear & I thought I was healed for good & rejoiced.

I worked night & day to uncover sin in myselfAs Written:my self & others & some of my healing for others is counted marvelous. I have had the best talent As Written: talant in Mothers Students to try to heal me - Mrs. Noyes. Mrs. Linscott – My Sister – Mrs Larmine. & Mrs. Clarke tried it. I paid them well with money & presents until I have paid out between 800Editorial Note: 800 & 1000.00Editorial Note: 1000 in the last 12 years. I have struggled with that lie until I grew discouraged & then hope would come again & I would press on. The claim of antagonism in my Husband greatly irritated it. Opposition, pride tyranny, temper - self will & every error in the land of SodomEditorial Note: Sodom was a biblical city near the Dead Sea which was destroyed by God because of great wickedness. See Genesis, chapters 18 and 19. has been handled & I have wrestled & prayed. None can know. All the while my sense As Written: sence of ScienceEditorial Note: Christian Science has been clear No argument could touch me about Mother, S & HEditorial Note: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy her works or tempt me to obey my Husbands commands to get a Surgeon As Written: Surgion – ear tubes As Written: teubs – trumpets or none of his various offerings. I have been faithful to ScienceEditorial Note: Christian Science & sooner would I pass the belief called death than yield to material law or satisfy mortal mind in any respect whatever. I have been scorned, abused - reproached slandered all the way through the BrethrenAs Written:Brethrn, but I looked to Principle, turned the deaf ear to the lie & worked on Brethren As Written: Brethrn would say - "She does such wonderful work in Science "Why don't she heal herselfAs Written:her self of that deafness." Why I do not know, but I know that Mother waited on the LordPs 27:14 Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord. & she told me to wait on Him & I mean to do it. My cross has been a heavy one, such as no Student yet has carriedMatt 16:24 ¶Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. & made so by my dear Husband who should have been my friend – but when I grew to see it was M. A. M using him for a tool I was enabled to bear it better & when Christ & Christmas came out - "The picture of the cross wreathed with flowers, the songbirdsAs Written:song birds about it & the Angel faces above it — I was refreshed & since I saw that picture I have not murmured.

I will say last winter Mrs Coleman tried to heal the belief - but the work did no good. I struggled alone many months & the only relief would get is in handling M. A. M. & its seeming workings. Spiritualism mental telegraphy &c. Revelation & realization As Written: realzation would come with relief – to be followed by renewed attacks. Mrs. Larminie tried many times but she found so much fault with me, was so impatient &c that invariably she did harm & I had to ask her to desist. Last Spring she came to spend the day with me. She, herselfAs Written:her self offered to treat me - & said I have made Mrs Clarke come to my house & she helps me pay my expenses & if you will let me treat you month after month I will do it for $15.00Editorial Note: 15 a month though you are able & ought As Written: aught to pay the full price. I replied As Written: replyed if you think you can heal me do so & I will pay you. I handed her a few dollars in advance– She tried it a week– I never had a harder week. I sent her the rest of money for a weeks treatment As Written: treatmnt and asked her kindly to stop, as I thought could get along better alone. She wrote in haste & sent the money back (which was not Christian) & said she had now discovered As Written: discovred my sin was the love of moneyI Tim 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. & " money is your God" & ordered me never to bring any of my snares to her so long as I lived. (I did not ask her she offered) I sent the money back & she returned it & said "You need it worse than I do & I have nothing to take back. & she said "The Mother will never allow you to come to see her until you overcome" that deafness "– I replied As Written: replyed The Mother did not teach there was any deafness & the reason she could not heal it she was making such a big reality as to make me think she had to have month after month at 20.00Editorial Note: 20 a month to work on the case. The word artifice came up to handle at that time & so seriously did she hurt me but for Mrs. Noyes I would have passed out. Afterwards I wrote her a sweet, loving letter & told her I would invite her to lunch with a few ScientistsEditorial Note: Christian Scientists & she never replied As Written: replyed to it. I have not seen her since.

The same week she accused me of money being my only God - I gave $150.00Editorial Note: 150 to the Church two Mothers books to poor women & 5.00Editorial Note: 5 to the Mother Church & 2.00Editorial Note: 2 to a poor Student. & she said Mrs Eddy knew my sin, &c. I do not tell you to complain for I have always loved my Sister Mrs. L. but I do think she has had some things to meet as well as myselfAs Written:my self & such a way of treatment is never going to heal one like me – Love alone will do the work. When I give all I earn to Science & have done it 12 years I do not think it a just charge to say "Your only God is money & you want it to dress yourselfAs Written:your self & your girls on.
