My own dear Teacher

The notice of the opening of your next Normal Class with the magic word "Come" attached, reached me yesterday But my dear Mrs Eddy much as I love to do your bidding in all things, I fear it is impossible this time. Now let me give you my reasons and see what you think of them. In the first place, it costs me $135.00Editorial Note: $135.00 in 1886 is the equivalent of $3,891.59 in 2021. a month just for rooms and board. I have just gone to the expense of getting my childrenEditorial Note: John Carroll Lathrop and Katherine Lathrop here, and my daughter who is a stenographer, has not yet got a situation. Then, while it is very nice to be able to treat, and above all things introduce our beloved ScienceEditorial Note: Christian Science, to the class of people I see most, yet I fear it will not be as nice through July and August, when they and their friends leave the city. I am wild to take the Normal Course, very very desirous to see your loved face again, and would be glad to go to BostonEditorial Note: Boston, Massachusetts and meet my other friends, but, when I think it all over, and think that for eight days I shall be making very little, and have my tuition and board to pay, I am afraid. If I were alone, I would risk it, but, I have my two children, and no one to help me.

So I think, I had better defer it till fall. You do understand me don't As Written: dont you, my dearest and best? I love you so truly that no shadow must ever come between us.
