Annotator: Asa Gilbert Eddy
Date: January 20, 1882 - archivist estimate
Manuscript Description: Handwritten by Mary Baker Eddy, with a notation in Asa Gilbert Eddy’s handwriting.
Archival Note: On January 21, 1882, Mary Baker Eddy and her husband, Asa Gilbert Eddy, left Massachusetts for a trip to Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, returning on April 4, 1882. On January 20, a meeting of members of the Church of Christ (Scientist) was held at which this letter of farewell and admonition by Eddy (L00001) was read to them. In addition, a poem by Eddy (L00002) was probably read at the same meeting. An earlier draft of the same poem (A10039) also exists, but is shorter than L00002 and differs from it in some ways.

I beg that you allow no envy or root of bitterness to spring up between youHeb 12:15 Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled; but that ye "love one another even as I have loved you"John 13:34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. John 13:35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another. John 15:12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.
