My preciousAs Written:pecious Student,

I will first thank you for your munificent gift for building the Mother Church. Next explain. Mrs. Otis had put the money that you, Mrs L., and Mr H., gave for the land into the possession of Mr. Bowers and I regarded it as unsafe to be entrusted to him. That was what I meant by what I wrote for the land was held at such a price I knew it was best for us to bide our time in getting it. I should never have purchased it if it had been offered to me without consulting you all as to your views of taking it at the price named. But the owner has never offered it to me at a reasonable valuation. This was why I said the money was at your order when I took it from Bowers to save losing it. Now dear one, I thank you more than ever for your sweet explanation and Christian desire to do so much for our holy Cause. And as you leave it for me to decide whether you give it for the building of our church or the purchase of the land I will say — The St. Paul's SchoolEditorial Note: St. Paul's School is a college-preparatory boarding school in Concord, New Hampshire, affiliated with the Episcopal Church.
