Editorial Title: Abbie K. Whiting to Mary Baker Eddy, July 26, 1882
Author: Abbie K. Whiting
Recipient: Mary Baker Eddy
Date: July 26, 1882
Manuscript Description: Handwritten by Abbie K. Whiting on embossed lined paper from Boston, Massachusetts.
Editorial Note: Whiting begins by referring to a letter from Arthur T. Buswell, which, although well-intentioned, was very hurtful to her. She is now turning to Eddy, who she feels truly understands her and expresses kindness and patience. Whiting shares her regret that she has not worked harder to overcome her faults and do the work, but she says that a desire to do better is stirring in her. They are looking forward to welcoming Eddy home from her time in Vermont, and Whiting wishes she had something to offer in return for all that Eddy has given. It should be their privilege to minister to Eddy, and Whiting asks that they be shown how to really do it well and expresses her love and encouragement for Eddy. Whiting writes about a visit from Delia S. Manley and Seabury T. Manley the day before. They were hoping to see Eddy, and Whiting says it has done her good to hear the Manleys speak of what they have been doing. She says that they are so earnest and alive to their work, even though they have been having a hard time. They had taken Diptheria cases as patients, but the authorities took these patients away from them. They now want to know how far they can go and not interfere with the law. Whiting received a letter from Laura Smith, enquiring about Eddy and sending love. She also mentions that there was no Association meeting, as some had heard from Clara Choate that no meeting would be held. She also writes that she will respond to Buswell's letter by a 'kitchen debate' on his return.
