Rules and regulations of the Church of ChristEditorial Note: Church of Christ (Scientist)

This church shall meet for public worship on the Sabbath.

Its members shall raise their Pastor'sEditorial Note: Mary Baker Eddy was the Pastor of the Church of Christ (Scientist) at this time. salary and pay it semi annually As Written: anually to their Pastor. They shall provide a place for public worship, shall provide singing books, and support Church music. The Pastor of this Church must be able to heal the sick after the manner of Christian Science, must be strictly moral, and an earnest and devoted follower of Christ

The Sacrament shall be observed once in two months by a short interval of solemn and silent self examination by each member as to his or her fitness to be called the follower of Christ as to his real state of love towards man and fellowship and communion with Christ, ― As to whether he is growing in the understanding and demonstration of Truth and Love, coming out from the world and being separated from error,II Cor 6:17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, II Cor 6:18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty. growing less selfish, more charitable and spiritual, yea, walking worthy his high callingEph 4:1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, Phil 3:13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, Phil 3:14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Phil 3:15 Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you. . By silent prayer, after the manner that casts out error and heals the sick, for these church members, and by sacred resolutions to partake of the bread that cometh down from heavenJohn 6:47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life. John 6:48 I am that bread of life. John 6:49 Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead. The church invocation shall be the Lord's Prayer and the spiritual version thereofEditorial Note: Mary Baker Eddy first published her spiritual interpretation of the Lord's Prayer in the first edition of Science and Health. She would go on to revise it in subsequent editions at least fifteen times before settling on the final version.

There shall be an evening meeting on Friday before the Sacrament

Examining Committee

There shall be a Committee chosen for the examination of Candidates for membership; this committee shall consist of not less than three members of this church. It shall be the duty of the Examining Committee to satisfy themselves as to the proper qualifications of all the candidates coming either with or without certificatesEditorial Note: “Certificates” here may refer to a candidate’s certificate indicating that he or she has withdrawn membership from a previous denomination..

The candidates shall be propounded at the evening meeting before the Sacrament The Church shall vote on the question of receiving the candidates on condition that they shall subscribe to the articles of the Church They shall be taken on one year's probation with the exception of those whom the church shall vote to receive at the first Church meeting for organizing

Business Committee

There shall be a board of directors divided into 3 committees as follows [?] Unclear or illegible  Business Committees and a business meeting of the church annually on the first Mondays of Dec. It shall be the duty of this Committee to attend to the general business of the church except what is assigned to the other com.

Clerk

There shall be a clerk to keep an account of the doings of the Church, names and dates of candidates, of committees, amount of funds, to notify the members of a special Church meeting, unless this be done from the pulpit, and to notify the individual whom the church has voted to invite to become their Pastor.

Treasurer

There shall be a Treasurer who shall receive the funds of the church and hold them ready for appropriation.

Committee on Collection

There shall be a Committee on collection to obtain contributions, and donations, and to present in each case written reports of the sums collected, which shall be placed on the files of the church.

Duties of Committees

The committees shall present their reports in writing at the annual meeting of the church

Discipline

The discipline of this church shall be what is contained in the 18th chap of Mathew 15- 16- 17- versesMatt 18:15 ¶Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. Matt 18:16 But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. Matt 18:17 And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican.

Any member not meeting the requirements of these articles shall be liable to expulsion

Annual Meeting

At or on the evening of the first Monday in December in each year the Annual Meeting of the Church shall be holden for the choice of Officers and the transaction of business

Clerk

At each annual meeting of the Church the Officers shall be chosen by ballot

Letters of Dismission

Shall be given on no other grounds but being removed from the Church by distance so far that the Church shall deem it justifiable to dismiss a member when applying for dismissal on these grounds if this member is in good standing in this Church

By laws Altered

These By Laws may be amended or repealed and new ones made at any regular Business Church meeting if this be proposed at a previous meeting of like character.
